Enfield Citadel Band was founded in Tottenham, north London, in 1892, and soon established a reputation as one of the Salvation Army's leading musical groups. In 1972, with the merging of two Salvation Army corps, the band moved to Enfield, on the outskirts of north London, and assumed its present title. There, as before, the band's principal purpose has remained - to proclaim the Gospel message within the corps and in open-air activities in the same way as Salvation Army bands throughout the world. In concert

In addition to service within its own locality, Enfield Citadel Band travels extensively to present its ministry in music making. It has performed in most of the major concert venues in the British Isles and has shared programmes with some of the leading contesting bands including Black Dyke, Fairey's, Foden's and Brighouse & Rastrick.

On the marchVisits to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA have also been undertaken. Enfield Citadel Band is also regularly involved in broadcasting and recording activities: a number of recent recordings are available now.

Bandmaster Jonathan CorryThe band has been led by a number of leading Salvation Army musicians through the years, including the legendary Bandmaster James Williams MBE who served in that position with such distinction for over 40 years. The band is currently led by Jonathan Corry who was commissioned bandmaster in January 2009.

A wide range of professions are represented by the band's members: from accountants to architects, civil servants to salesmen. But all are united by the desire to use their talents in the Lord's service and to fulfil the band's motto:

Ad Optimum - To The Highest

Coming events

Confirmed dates for band events in 2012 have been added to the Events page. In February, the band will once again take part in the annual Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Concert in Chelmsford. Guest soloists on this occasion will be Christopher Deacon (Trumpet) and Anthony Harris (Vocal). Chris is principal trumpet with the Orchestra of the Royal Ballet and attends the Regent Hall Corps. Anthony has recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and worships at the Bromley Corps. Another great evening of music making is in store for this very worthwhile cause.

Following the band's visit in 2009, deputy bandmaster and principal trombonist Andrew Justice was invited to travel to Trondheim as a soloist for the annual Trondheimsnatt Concert, held by the Nidaros Brass Band (conductor Geir Ulseth) in aid of the Salvation Army’s work in Norway. Andrew is pictured (right) playing with Nidaros Band (click to enlarge). Other guests included the Trondheim Chamber Choir, Martin Myhre (a nationally-known folk singer), the Nidaros String Quartet, and the organist of the host church in Trondheim. Andrew contributed Ralph Pearce’s ‘Rhapsody on an American Folk Hymn’, and joined with Mari Malm Morkved, trombonist with Nidaros Brass Band, in the old favourite trombone duet ‘Comrades’, and the trombone ensemble ‘Peace Like A River’. Whilst in Trondheim, Andrew also undertook a mini-recital after a joint SA/Methodist church service, where his performances included ‘Sing A Happy Song’ (Camsey), ‘Mid All The Traffic’ (Ballantyne), and ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ (arr Leidzen).
