Bandmaster Jonathan Corry

Jonathan Corry was commissioned Bandmaster of Enfield Citadel Band in January 2009, a role which he is privileged to undertake in Salvation Army musical ministry. Originally taught by his father and a member of the Young People’s Band at Belfast Temple SA, Jonathan soon progressed to Principal Trumpet of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and under the tutelage of Paul Young obtained a place studying for a BMus(hons) at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

At the RNCM he regularly played Bb and Eb cornet with bands such as Black Dyke before studying for a Masters (MMus) in conducting with James Gourlay, Mark Elder and Clark Rundell. During this period he built a portfolio of conducting experience with bands including weekend visits to various SA bands, Cwmaman Institute, Tullis Russell Mills, Besses O’th Barn, Fairey, Strabane Concert Brass and Brighouse & Rastrick. He was a semi-finalist of the European Conductor’s competition held in Groningen, Holland and in 2006, was Assistant Conductor of the European Youth Brass Band. Recently, Jonathan has become an associate member of the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators.

He has performed and recorded with the Ulster Orchestra on a number of occasions and been concerto soloist playing the Haydn and Hummel concertos with the Ulster Orchestra and Camerata Ireland respectively.

As well his commitments at Pangbourne College, where Jonathan is Head of Brass, Bandmaster and Assistant Boarding Master; he also works for Havering Music Service and Brent Music Service. His work also includes recitals, masterclasses, producing and editing CD recordings, BBC recordings and broadcasts and fulfilling his role as brass professor and rehearsal conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.
